Good afternoon, peoples! Well, I was very busy this weekend making Christmas cards…shocker, eh? After I finished a pile of cards, I thought to myself…”self, why don’t you share your cards with your peeps?” Great idea, right? Well, since it is already the 21st of December (yikes!), I am going to condense the 12 days of Christmas into 4 and share a couple of cards with you every day this week 😀 Hopefully, some of you last minute crafters (like me) will gain some inspiration for those last minute cards you need to create.
Let’s get to it! Here’s the first card I have to share with you today:
I started this card with a 5″ x 7″ kraft card base and, as always, doubled matted my wallpaper. The wallpaper is from an old 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ Christmas mat stack I picked up from Hobby Lobby last year. I used a Paper Trey Ink stamp to create the sentiment, which I embossed using Lindy’s Stamp Gang Midnight Bronze embossing powder. I then cut the sentiment out using the Spellbinders Labels 4 Small dies. The black mat behind the sentiment was cut form the Labels 4 set – I love how these 2 sets work together…I only wish Spellbinders did this for all their label dies!
I cut some greenery pieces from a variety of colors of cardstock using the Tim Holtz Festive Greenery decorative strip die, and used some of the die cuts on the corners of the center sentiment. I also cut a few small flourishes from some gold foil cardstock using the same strip die and layered those on top of the greenery.
At that point, I still felt like my card was missing something, so I added that cute little reindeer, wrapped some twine around his throat (okay…doesn’t quite sound right, but you know what I mean) and tied on a Miniature Bronze Bell Charm. The reindeer was cut from light weight chipboard using the Tim Holtz Mini Reindeer movers and shapers die, and embossed with Mahogany Tinsel embossing powder from Stampendous 🙂
For the finishing touches, I added two Bronze Corner Metal Filigree Embellishments (#807-B) to the corners of the card and scattered some SS12, SS16 and SS20 Vitrail AB Flat Back Glass Rhinestones in the corners and along the edge of the sentiment. As usual, I did distress the edges of both mats and ink the white mat using Gathered Twigs Distress Ink straight from the pad to paper.
Here’s a look at my second card for the day:
This card I made for my son, and look at that…I stamped the same sentiment on it. I think it was a total fluke to show these 2 cards together because I think they are the only 2 I made using that same sentiment…lol. …and oh my…look at that…I used the same Spellbinders dies to cut the sentiment out, too!
Anywho…this is another 5″ x 7″ card. I chose to use a black card base because it made that paper POP 🙂 I used some of the same greenery on 2 corners of the sentiment, and added a Bronze Snowflake Metal Filigree Embellishment (#203-B) in the upper left corner of the label. On the bottom right corner of the label, I added “Dec 25” cut from light weight chipboard and embossed using Fired Brick Distress embossing powder. The 25 was cut from a Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers die (it came as a set with the mini reindeer), and I used the Alphabetical decorative strip die to cut the letters. I tied some twine around the 2 just to add a bit more rustic to the card, and thought I would do something unconventional and add some gears to man the card up even more 🙂
For the finishing touches on this baby, I kept it simple…I just added 2 Bronze Corner Metal Filigree Embellishments (#731-B) to the corners, and added a couple of tears around the edges. I curled back the edges of the tears using a small knitting needle. If you want those curls to stick, try using some matte multi-medium on them…they will go no where once it dries 🙂
Whew…my fingers are tired from all that typing! I hope you like the cards today. Thanks for popping by, and I will see you tomorrow 🙂
