4 Days of Christmas – Vintage Shabbified Christmas Cards

Good morning, everyone!  I am back again with day 3 of my 4 days of Christmas 🙂  Can you believe it…only 2 more days until Christmas!!!  As with the last 2 days, I have another 2 cards to share with you today…and here is card #1:

Red and Green Plaid Masculine Christmas Card

I made most of my cards 5″ x 7″ this year because it worked so well with the mat stacks I was using…and this card is no different.  Again, I double matted the card, distressed the edges of the mat and wallpaper, and used Gathered Twigs distress ink around the edges of the mat.

I embossed another of my favorite Paper Trey Ink sentiments using Lindy’s Stamp Gang Midnight Bronze embossing powder and cut the sentiment out using a Spellbinders Labels 14 die.  I then fussy cut a mat for the sentiment using kraft cardstock.

As always, I added several embellishments around the edges of the central label.  I started with gold foil die cuts from the Spellbinders Holly Motifs die set.  I was all over the Tim Holtz Festive Greenery die cuts this season, and used them on pretty much every card.  This one is no different, but I did add in a small bronze snowflake charm from the Jingle Bells Tibetan Charms Collection.  I just cut the loop off the top of the charm and filed the sharp edges using a needle file.

Once the focal point was done, I added a few extras to spruce up the card a bit and make it look more balanced.  I started with a combination of twine and 1/8″ wide ivory ribbon that I wrapped around the card several times to create a belly band under the sentiment.  I then added two Bronze Corner Metal Filigree Embellishments (#730-B) to two opposite corners of the card front.  Finally, I added some SS12, SS16 and SS20 Vitrail AB Flat Back Glass Rhinestones along the edge of the label and in the bottom corner of the card.

My second card for the day is…drumroll, please…

Rustic Red and White Reindeer Christmas Card

The “wallpaper” I chose for this card had the reindeer image printed on it already, so I chose to add a smaller label that didn’t overshadow the image.  I embossed the sentiment using the same Lindy’s embossing powder and used the Spellbinders Grommet Tags die set to cut it out.  Because I can’t live without double matting anything, I added a black mat behind the sentiment, which I had to fussy cut.

Before attaching the sentiment to the card, I wrapped two pieces of twine around the left hand side of the card using the rule of 3’s…by this I am referring to the design principle that groupings of items in odd numbers is more pleasing to the eye.  In this case, I placed the belly band approximately 1/3 along the length of the card 🙂

After the twine was in place, I layered some more Festive Greenery die cuts (including the foil flourishes) on two opposite corners of the tag before adhering the tag to the card.  I should mention that I do use pop dots or foam tape for adhering my sentiments just to add a bit more dimension to my cards.  In this case, I also added two brads on either side of the tag.

For the finishing touches, I added a Bronze Corner Metal Filigree Embellishment (#731-B) in the upper right hand corner and scattered SS12, SS16 and SS20 Light Colorado Topaz Flat Back Glass Rhinestones in the corners, on the filigree corner and on the sentiment tag.

Here’s to another day of Christmas cards…only one more to go!  (…plus I might have one extra to share on Christmas day, too :P)  Thanks for popping by, and hoping you are ready for Christmas day and can finally relax 🙂  …until tomorrow 🙂
