Mixed Media Filigree Canvas

Good evening, peeps!  I have some eye candy created by design team member Monica Roca to share with you 🙂  Monica created a beautiful mixed media canvas…well, it’s more like a metal fiesta canvas 😛  Any guesses as to how much this puppy weighs?  Hmmm…am I sensing a giveaway in the near future?

Anyways…on to the canvas.  After all, that is why we are here, right?  Monica started by creating her background.  She sprayed Adirondack Cranberry  Color Wash onto the canvas, giving it a rich marbled purple base.  Once the color wash was dry, Monica used texture paste and a Prima stencil to add some texture to her masterpiece.  She then allowed that to dry before using black acrylic paint to distress the edges and textured surface.

After sealing her background with a clear fixative spray, Monica started layering metal.  She started by creating a 6 petal flower in the center of the canvas as a focal point…and she used the beautiful new Bronze Teardrop Metal Filigree Embellishments (#081-B) to do it 🙂  Monica then used a Bronze Heart Metal Filigree Embellishment (#023-B), Medium Copper Gears and Miniature Bronze Gears to create the center of the flower.

Monica then did two different corner treatments to complete the canvas.  In the top left and lower right corners, Monica layered Antique Bronze Box Corners (#HD603-B) and Antique Bronze Tibetan Style Filigree Corners (#HD901-B).  For the upper right and lower left corners, Monica bent two Bronze Metal Filigree Embellishments (#679-B) around the edge of the canvas and layered gears where the two pieces meet.  Just to add a little something special, Monica adhered SS12 Amethyst Flat Back Glass Rhinestones to the center of the gears and on the corner filigrees.
