“Faith” Mixed Media Journal Cover by Keri Sallee

Good day, everyone!  I have a mixed media project to share with you today 🙂  Design team member Keri Sallee created this perfectly grungy journal cover using ButterBeeScraps metal:

Keri put a ton of time into this project, adding several layers of modeling paste, paint, metal and more!  Here’s a picture part-way through her process:

You can see that she added a layer of modeling paste to her cover and added texture to it using a rubber stamp before adding a variety of ButterBeeScraps metal embellishments.

Here’s a close up of the bottom left hand corner…don’t you just love that crackle finish she added?

As a final touch, Keri added several Small Round Bronze Tibetan Charms (#J176-B) along the right edge of her journal cover to add her title:

Postcard From the Universe by Keri Sallee

Good morning, everyone!  I have a special project created by design team member Keri Sallee to share with you today 🙂  Keri created what she calls her “postcard from the universe” for ButterBeeScraps.   …and I think it conveys a very important message that is easily forgotten by many…

Keri created her “postcard” base using black cardstock and a variety of glimmer mists, glams, glazes and fluid acrylics.  She used a second piece of cardstock and a white painter’s pen for the quote.  Keri also created a frame around the quote using a variety of ButterBeeScraps metal embellishments and charms and added dimensional glue dots to make the quote pop.

You can see that Keri used a Copper Metal Filigree Embellishment (#553-C) on the top and bottom of the quote.  She also arranged Medium Silver, Copper and Bronze Mixed Gear Charms, charms from the Steampunk Tibetan Charm Collection, and small Bronze Flower Metal Filigree Embellishments (052-B) to help frame the quote.

Mixed Media Flower Painting by Keri Sallee

Good morning, everyone!  I have another funky mixed media project created by design team member Keri Sallee to share with you 🙂

Keri used some scrap lumber as the base for her mixed media painting, and added a multitude of layers to create this beauty…

I’m not going to go through all of the steps Keri took because she has put together a fantastic step-by-step tutorial on her blog HERE.  She did prepare the lumber using gesso, then layered some 7 Gypsies “Paris” tissue paper, paint, stamped images, stenciled texture paste, the flowers (of course), and finally paint splatters.

Keri used the Vintage Labels Cotton Ribbon (#RB053-N) to create the petals of the flowers.  She then layered Silver Flower Metal Filigree Embellishments (#161-P) and (#168-P) for the flower centers.  You can also see that she bent and shaped a Silver Butterfly Metal Filigree Embellishment (#091-P) to the left of the tallest flower.

Finally, Keri cut apart a Copper Square Metal Filigree Embellishment (#068-C) to create the leaves of the flowers:

Steampunk Owl Mixed Media Project by Keri Sallee

Good morning, everyone!  I have a fantastic project created by design team member Keri Sallee to share with you today 🙂  I have to say…I am totally and completely head over heels in LOVE with this perfectly steampunky owl 🙂  …I will try to get through this blog post without drooling too much on my keyboard!

Keri started with a cute wooden owl silhouette as the base for this project (she picked it up from Walmart).  She covered the base with some natural mesh and started layering a variety of metal filigrees to give this little guy a great personality!!!  A complete list of the filigrees that Keri used will be listed below; however, I’d like to point out a few so that it doesn’t turn into a “where’s Waldo” search on you 😉

In the picture above, you can see that Keri used the Bronze Corner Metal Filigree Embellishments (#807-B) on the tips of the ears and to create the beak.  Keri then placed a single Copper Square Metal Filigree Embellishment (#068-C) on his forehead.  For those big ol’ eyes, Keri layered the Large Glass Clock Cabochons w/ Bronze Settings onto Silver Flower Metal Filigree Embellishments (#168-P).

Keri started her layers of feathers with some Bronze Corner Metal Filigree Embellishments (#808-B)…you can see the corner of one poking down between the owl’s feet, and two others framing the owl’s face.  She then added some more of the Copper Square Metal Filigree Embellishments (#068-C) (after cutting them apart), and some of the new Bronze Metal Filigree Embellishments (#592-B) to create his chest feathers.

For the wings, Keri broke out the Bronze Teardrop Metal Filigree Embellishments (#081-B).  These create the perfect contrast, don’t ya think?  She also used some Copper Metal Filigree Embellishments (#553-C) that she cut in half to add a fringe on the edge of his wings.  To finish everything off, Keri strategically scattered some small Silver Flower Metal Filigree Embellishments (#161-P) and the new miniature Bronze Flower Metal Filigree Embellishments (#052-B) on the owl.  She then used 6x8mm Black Electroplated Faceted Glass Abacus Beads in the center of the tiny flowers.

I’m pretty sure I know what you are thinking right about now…”How the heck did she create that beautiful patina look?”  …am I right?  Well, you may have to pop on over to Keri’s blog and have a read of her post to find out, but the short answer is…layers of paint.  Wait…wasn’t I just rambling on about layers last week?  (If you missed the post, you can find it HERE 🙂 )  I have included a list of all the paints that Keri used for your reference below.

Mixed Media Portrait Canvas by Keri Sallee

Good morning, everyone!  I have a very special post today – this is our newest design team member’s first project for ButterBeeScraps, and I’m tellin’ ya…I can’t be more thrilled that it’s a mixed media piece 🙂

Keri Sallee created this awesome mixed media portrait for us today:

To create the background, Keri started with some decoupage using the pages from a phone book and some washi tape.  She then dry brushed some blue paint and stenciled some black polka dots onto the background.  You can see in the close up below that she also splattered some bright yellow paint to add even more texture.

Once the background was finished, Keri painted the stunning portrait onto her canvas.  I just love when portraits are done in this style 🙂  …and hello! …how can you help but gaze into those eyes!

…now on to the ButterBeeScraps bits 😉  Check out that headband!  Keri used some of the Vintage Labels Cotton Ribbon (#RB053-N) for the main part of the headband.  She then layered two Copper Metal Filigree Embellishments (#553-C), two Silver Flower Metal Filigree Embellishments (#168-P), one Copper Metal Filigree Embellishment (#810-C), a few gears from the Small and Medium Bronze Gear Charms sets…all topped with that fabulous bronze octopus from the Steampunk Tibetan Charms Collection.

I also love the little sentiment she added to the lady’s shoulder…”Be free and regret nothing”.  Tell me…how hard is it to accomplish that?  I’m still working on it 😉
